Al MurrayMayor Al Murray was elected to the Tustin City Council in November of 2010 and appointed Mayor Pro Tem by his colleagues in 2011, Mayor in 2012, and reappointed to Mayor in 2013. In December 2016, Al was selected as Mayor Pro Tem and selected as Mayor in 2017.  He and his wife, Tamala, have two daughters ages 19 and 12.

Mayor Murray currently represents the City of Tustin on the Orange County Transportation Authority Board, Orange County Fire Authority Board, the Association of California Cities–Orange County where he is also involved on various sub-committees within each of these agencies. During the summer of 2015, Al was selected to chair the newly-formed Orange County Drowning Prevention Task Force and now continues to serve on the Task Force as a member.

Prior to his election to the City Council, Al served on the Tustin Planning Commission for three years as Chair, Vice Chair and member. He also served on the Community Services Commission for ten years as Chair, Vice Chair, and member.

Mayor Murray has been an active volunteer in the community, serving on the Tustin Community Foundation, Orange County Transportation Authority’s Citizens Advisory Committee, Pediatric Adolescent Diabetes Research Education Foundation, Tustin Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off Committee, and Ladera Elementary and Pioneer Middle School Parent Teacher Organizations.

A past law enforcement professional and police lieutenant with 35 years of experience, Mayor Murray was a past recipient of the Irvine Police Department’s highest honor, the Medal of Valor. His last assignment at the Irvine Police Department was in management of the Office of Professional Development, where he was responsible for department policy, training, recruiting, hiring and special projects.

Mayor Murray holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from National University, as well as management certificates from the University of Southern California, Boston University and Harvard University.
