FITNESS AWARENESS WEEK

An activity or special lecture is scheduled each day this week. Each day you attend gives you a higher chance to win prizes on the last day. All participants will be given a Passport to Fitness, which will be stamped at the end of each activity. The more stamps you receive, the more chances you have to win!

Find out about your current level of fitness by participating in Functional Fitness Assessments. We will be conducting tests on your lower and upper body strength and flexibility. You will be able to take home your results and on Friday, we will interpret them. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

No matter how old you are, studies show that regular exercise and physical activity are important for healthy aging. Both can help you stay inde¬pendent, improve your health, reduce your risk for falls and the injuries caused by those falls, and help prevent or reduce the chances of disease and disability. Join Dr. Khoury as she discusses why exercise and physical activity are important to healthy aging and how older adults can get the exercise they need to stay healthy. In her lecture, Dr. Khoury will discuss the kinds of exercises that can produce long-term health benefits, how people with specific physical limitations can get the exercise they need, and how older adults can avoid injury when exercising. Dr. Khoury is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. She specializes in helping older adults who have had injury or illness to their muscles, bones, joints and nerves. Her office is located at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange.
