New Building Codes Become Effective January 1, 2017 -
Every three years, the State adopts new codes to establish uniform standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings, electrical systems, plumbing systems, mechanical systems, and fire and life safety systems. Beginning on January 1, 2017, the City of Tustin will begin to enforce the new 2016 California Building Standards Codes as required by State law. All permit submittals beginning January 1, 2017, must comply with the new 2016 codes. Pursuant to State law, the City has adopted local amendments that are reasonably necessary because of the local climatic, geological, or topographical conditions. The Ordinance containing these amendments can be viewed here. The 2016 California Building Codes are available online, and can be viewed here.
