The City of Tustin is working diligently to preserve, enhance, and revitalize the Old Town Tustin area through responsible and intentional development, while ensuring the historic character is preserved. The Old Town Improvements Project and the Main Street Improvements Project mark the beginning of a comprehensive initiative aimed at revitalizing the downtown area to create a vibrant, cohesive, connected, livable, and memorable City core.  These projects are designed to invest in and support local businesses and the community at large by enhancing the overall quality of the Old Town Tustin streetscape and surrounding infrastructure.

  • Added parklets to transform open spaces to vibrant community gathering areas 
  • Reconstructing sidewalks to address uneven surfaces and improve walkability 
  • Upgraded landscaping to improve environmental health and beautify the area 
  • Raised medians, signage, and right-of-way indicators to improve driver, biker, and pedestrian safety 
  • Added parking to improve access to Old Town and attract more visitors 
  • Construction of a gateway sign that welcomes people to Old Town and establishes a focal monument for the area 

What to Expect Chaak Streetview 2

Construction will span El Camino Real between First Street and Sixth Street and Main Street between Newport Avenue and C Street. Construction began on January 5, 2026, and will continue through Summer 2026.

While the project team strives to keep disruptions to a minimum, there will be temporary interruptions, including: 

  • Construction noise 
  • Traffic delays Main Street Monument Sign
  • Temporary road closures 
  • Construction dust/odors 
  • Pedestrian detours 
  • Heavy equipment 

There are three public parking lots in Old Town.  Drivers are encouraged to utilize the lots when construction activities prevent parking adjacent to businesses. 

Project Background 

The project is the culmination of years of planning brought forth as a shared community vision in the 2018 Downtown Commercial Core Specific Plan (DCCSP). The enhancements for this project are guided by the vision and goals in the specific plan, which in summation, provides guidance for the preservation, enhancement, and revitalization of Old Town Tustin by creating a vibrant, cohesive, connected, livable, and memorable City core.
