VOTE CENTERS AND BALLOT DROP OFF BOXES
California Senate Bill 450 (Voter’s Choice Act) was passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor in 2016. The law authorizes counties to conduct any election as an all-mailed ballot election provided the jurisdiction provides ballot drop-off locations, vote centers and outreach.
Beginning in 2020, the Orange County Registrar of Voters transitioned to vote centers and ballot drop boxes. Elections are no longer a one-day event. Voting begins the month before any election day and every voter will receive a vote-by-mail ballot. Voters now have many convenient options to vote which include mailing their ballot, voting in person at a vote center, deliver their ballot to a ballot drop box or deliver the ballot in person to the Registrar of Voters.
