CRIMINAL Investigations Unit

Unit Supervisors

Sergeant Taylor serve as the supervisor of the Criminal Investigations Unit, accountable for investigative related matters in the City.

Unit Teams

The Criminal Investigations Unit is divided into two teams: the Major Crimes Team and the Property Crimes Team.

Major Crimes Team

The Major Crimes Team is responsible for investigating:

  • All Sexual Assaults
  • Assaults
  • Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Criminal Threats
  • Domestic Violence
  • Homicides
  • Missing Persons
  • Stalking
  • Suspicious Deaths
  • Other crimes occurring in the City of Tustin

The Unit works closely with the County of Orange Social Services Agency in the investigation of child abuse or elder abuse cases that originate in Tustin.

Property Crimes Team

The Property Crimes Team is responsible for the investigation of all crimes where the motive is financial gain, or crimes that result in the theft or destruction of property. Areas investigated include:

  • Arson
  • Commercial and Residential Burglaries
  • Embezzlement
  • Financial Crimes
  • Fraudulent Checks
  • Identity Theft
  • Internet Fraud
  • Theft
  • Vandalism

Cross-Training

Although criminal investigations is divided into two teams to cover their respective disciplines, all detectives are cross-trained in order to have the ability to assist in, or lead any type of investigation.

Support to Other Units & Agencies

As part of the Special Operations Division, criminal investigations detectives are often called upon to assist in gang investigations, narcotics related investigations, and to assist other state, federal, and local law enforcement agencies. The Criminal Investigations Unit also works closely with the Crime Analysis Unit.
