The Tustin City Council and Parks and Recreation Department invite you to attend a Memorial Day Remembrance event on Monday, May 30th, at 9:00 a.m. at Veterans Sports Park (1645 Valencia Ave.). The free event will honor Killed in Action (KIA) and Missing in Action (MIA) United States service members and their families.
“On Memorial Day we will gather as a community to remember, honor, and pay gratitude to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” stated Mayor Austin Lumbard. “It is important to not only recognize their sacrifice, but we must also respect their devotion to duty and ensure they will never be forgotten.”
The ceremony begins at 9:00 a.m. and will include keynote speaker Bobby McDonald, U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran, 9th and 10th Horse Calvary Association-Buffalo Soldiers, and local, state and National Veterans Advocate.
The National Anthem will be performed by the Voices of Tustin and a 21-gun salute by the American Legion Post 227 will follow the reading of the names honoring Tustin’s 28 KIA/MIA United States service members. The event will also highlight the installation of new pavers honoring Tustin Veterans at the Tustin Veterans Memorial.
“It’s our duty to pay honor and respect to all of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives in defense of our country,” stated Mayor Pro Tem Barry W. Cooper. “Our debt to these heroes can never be re-paid, but our gratitude and respect must last forever. As a Marine Veteran, I will always hold a special place in my heart for the men and women who wear the uniform.”
