[ARCHIVED] City of Tustin to Implement Temporary Operational Changes for Precautionary Measures

Tustin City Hall

The City of Tustin continues to closely monitor the developing Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and is taking reasonable precautionary measures to protect the health and safety of our residents, staff, and visitors.

At an emergency City Council meeting on March 13, the Council discussed the potential threat to public services and activities due to the effects of the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the postponement or cancellation of gatherings based on Governor Newsom’s Executive Order aimed at slowing the transmission of COVID-19.  As a precaution, the City of Tustin is implementing temporary changes to City operations effective immediately.

“The decision to make these changes was made after careful consideration in response to local, state, and federal agencies directions and guidelines to reduce the spread of the virus,” stated Mayor Dr. Allan Bernstein.  “Although there are no confirmed cases in Tustin, ensuring the health, safety and well-being of our community and employees has always been a top priority, and it is our responsibility to take action to help keep everyone safe.”

The following preventative measures will be taken through the end of March:

  • Tustin Area Senior Center: Effective immediately, will be closed.  Meals on Wheels service will continue on a modified basis.  Current food clients will be updated.
  • Public events and classes at City facilities: Effective immediately, all events and classes (other than outdoor after-school programs, weather permitting) sponsored by the City or scheduled at City facilities (such as community fundraisers, citizens’ academy and sports leagues) will be postponed to dates to be determined.
  • Private events at City facilities: Effective immediately, all events scheduled at City facilities (such as parties, weddings, nonprofit events, and sports leagues) will be cancelled or postponed to dates to be determined.
  • City Public Counter Services: Effective immediately, all City public counter services will be performed by City staff online, or by telephone.  Access to City facilities will be limited to in-person meetings by appointment only, as necessary.
  • City Council and Commission Meetings: The Council strongly encourages the public to participate in Council and Commission meetings remotely, by streaming meetings and submitting comments to the City Clerk via email.
  • Meetings of City Staff: City staff will postpone non-essential meetings and, whenever feasible, conduct meetings via phone conference rather than in person.

For more information regarding City services, please visit www.tustinca.org  or call (714) 573-3000.

As this situation continues to develop, the Council will continue to evaluate the need to make additional modifications, the City of Tustin will continue to work diligently with the County of Orange and the Health Care Agency and all other federal, state and local agencies necessary to provide updates as needed.
