[ARCHIVED] Tustin Responds to Governor's Latest COVID-19 Guidelines

civic center letters

On Sunday, March 15, Governor Newsom released updated guidance for all communities throughout the state to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The action called for home isolation of all seniors, bars to close and restaurants to limit occupancy to provide deep social distancing.

Based on Governor Newsom’s recommendations, Tustin City Manager Matthew West has issued a proclamation declaring the existence of a local emergency in order to protect the public’s health and welfare.

It is essential to understand that this type of proclamation is a tool to enable the City to recoup costs, access resources, and exercise emergency police powers.

The proclamation is in line with what other local and regional agencies have enacted or are considering as a preventative measure to decrease the risk of community spread of COVID-19 in their communities. The City Council, at its regularly scheduled meeting on March 17, 2020, will discuss ratification of the proclamation.

The City is encouraging the public to watch the meeting on television or online instead of attending in person. The meeting can be viewed live on the City’s website or on local Cox Channel 851.
