[ARCHIVED] New Restrictions as Orange County Moves Back to Purple Tier

Governor Newsom announced today that most California counties, including Orange County, are moving back to the the Purple Tier of the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy effective tomorrow, November 17. The Purple Tier is the state's most restrictive tier. 

The state made this directive to address the significant increase in the number of lab confirmed COVID-19 cases and protect the state’s health care system and all residents and businesses. 

The following represents a summary of restrictions for Orange County.  The Governor has directed that the following steps must be implemented in the next 24 hours (Tuesday, November 17):

  • Indoor retail capacity is now limited to 25% (previously 50% indoors)  
  • Museums, zoos and aquariums must move to outdoors only (previously 25% indoors) 
  • Places of worship must move to outdoors only (previously 25% or 100 people indoors) 
  • Movie theatres must move to outdoors only (previously 25% or 100 people indoors) 
  • Hotels and Lodging may remain open, but must close fitness centers and indoor pools (previously fitness centers were allowed to be open) 
  • Gyms and Fitness Centers must move to outdoors only (previously 10% indoors) 
  • Restaurants must move to outdoor service or take-out only (previously 25% or 100 people indoors) 
  • Bars/Breweries/Distilleries that do not serve food must continue to stay closed 
  • Offices “can work remotely”

This announcement will remain in effect until the State Public Health Officer determines it is appropriate to make additional modifications based on public health conditions and data.
