Unit Supervisor

Sergeant Wonser serves as the Traffic Unit supervisor, accountable for traffic related matters in the City.

Staff

The Traffic Unit consists of:

  • 1 Police Sergeant
  • 5 Motor Officers
  • 1 Police Services Officer
  • 1 Police Records Specialist
  • 4 Part-Time Parking Control Officers
  • 1 Reserve Police Officer

Goal

The goal of the Traffic Unit is to ensure the safety of the public within our jurisdiction through education, enforcement, and engineering. This is accomplished by maintaining a positive relationship with the community and its members by utilizing the Community Governance policing model.

Responsibilities

The Traffic Unit is responsible for the management of all traffic and parking-related matters throughout the City of Tustin. This includes the coordination of all special events sponsored by the City of Tustin, including:

  • Chili Cook Off
  • Dino Dash
  • High School Graduations
  • July 4th Fireworks Show
  • Tustin Street Fair
  • Tustin Tiller Days

Community & Regional Programs

The Traffic Unit is involved in a variety of community and regional programs promoting the safety of the public during the course of their daily activities. These programs include:

  • County-wide “Avoid the 38” campaign
  • Distracted driving
  • Identification and deterrence of aggressive driving
  • National “Click it or Ticket” campaign
  • Seat belt education
  • Traffic safety programs

Grant Funding

We work closely with the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through specific grant funding which allows the Unit to conduct Driving Under the Influence (DUI) checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols throughout the year.
