TUSTIN, CA – The Tustin community is invited to learn more about the progress made to date and what’s planned for the future of Tustin Legacy — one of the most significant development projects in the City’s history. With approximately 500 acres of land still available for development, Tustin Legacy is at an important juncture in its growth trajectory, offering community members the chance to be part of its future. The City will host an open-house-style public meeting on Tuesday, May 13, at 6 p.m., at The Annex at Tustin Legacy (15445 Lansdowne Road) to kick off a collaborative months-long engagement process.
“The future of Tustin Legacy is being re-written,” said Mayor Austin Lumbard. “We want this to be a collaborative process that reflects the values and vision of the people who call Tustin home. We encourage all residents and stakeholders to attend the meeting on May 13 to participate in this exciting initiative.”
Build the future together
The City has set a clear vision for Tustin Legacy. The project spans approximately 1,600 acres, transforming a former Marine Corps Air Station into a thriving mixed-use community over the last 30 years that already includes more than 4,200 homes, 95 acres of parks and major public amenities.
The next phase of development will build on this progress, but community input will be central to how the remaining 500 acres evolve. The upcoming outreach process effort will raise awareness and foster community engagement around the iconic Tustin Hangars. While the North Hangar was recently damaged by fire, the South Hangar remains intact. The City intends to engage the community in a discussion focused on:
- Raising awareness of the current vision, plans and assumptions for development around the hangar sites.
- Ensuring alignment between the City’s plans and the community’s needs, values and priorities.
- Sharing the opportunities and constraints that will help shape what’s possible moving forward.
Ways to get involved
To foster meaningful conversations and encourage broad community participation, the City will host a variety of outreach activities this spring and summer, including:
- Community meetings – beginning Tuesday, May 13, with a second community meeting planned for this fall.
- Pop-up engagements – at events like the Viva Tustin Celebration (May 2) and other local gatherings.
- Small group discussions – with neighborhood groups, community organizations and interested residents.
- Tours of the Tustin Legacy site – giving residents the chance to explore key opportunity areas firsthand.
- Surveys – available in-person and online to make it easy for everyone to share their thoughts.
- Regular project updates – shared through social media, newsletters, signage and dedicated web resources.
