Lieutenant Matt Roque began his career with the Tustin Police Department in May 2007.
CAREER
COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Lieutenant Roque’s career started as a 911 Dispatcher/Communications Officer. In this role, he answered emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, created calls for service, prioritized and dispatched calls, and conducted records checks on suspects and vehicles.
OFFICER
In 2011, Lieutenant Roque attended Orange County Sheriff’s Academy as part of class 196. As a police officer, Lieutenant Roque was a member of the Special Enforcement Detail, a Terrorism Liaison Officer, and a Field Training Officer.
SERGEANT
Lieutenant Roque promoted to Sergeant in 2019. In addition to patrol supervision, he was the K9 Program supervisor and Field Training Program Coordinator. In 2024, he became the Investigation Unit Sergeant, beginning in the Property Crimes Team, before supervising the Major Crimes/Crimes against Persons Team, as well as the School Resource Officers.
LIEUTENANT
In December of 2025, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Special Operations Division. He currently oversees the Investigations Unit, Gang Unit, Crime Analysis Unit, SWAT Team, and Special Response Team.
EDUCATION
Lieutenant Roque holds a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada.
PERSONAL LIFE
In his spare time, Lieutenant Roque enjoys time in the outdoors with his family.
