Manager Thao Nguyen began her career with the Tustin Police Department in 2005 as a Police Records Specialist. In this position, she worked in the Professional Standards Division where she was responsible for the personnel and training desk.
CAREER
In April 2008, she was promoted to Police Records Lead, providing leadership and oversight to Records personnel to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures. In June 2011, she advanced to Records Supervisor, assuming responsibility for the daily operations and activities of the Records Unit.
In January 2017, Manager Nguyen was promoted to Operations Support Division Manager. In this role, she managed the personnel and operations of the Property & Evidence, Fleet, and Records Units. She also served as the department’s Accreditation Manager, overseeing the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) program. Her duties included coordinating and administering the department’s efforts to achieve and maintain national accreditation standards.
In January 2021, Manager Thao Nguyen assumed the role of Field Support Division Manager, where she provided oversight for the Police Services Officers/Crime Scene Investigation (PSO/CSI) Unit, Detention Officer Unit, and Communications Unit. She now serves as the Communications Division Manager, where she is responsible for managing the department’s budget and grant programs, overseeing the Communications Unit, as well as leading the Peer Support Team and employee wellness initiatives.
EDUCATION
Manager Nguyen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology, Law and Society from the University of California, Irvine in 2005. She is a 2019 graduate of the Executive Leadership Institute at the Drucker School of Management. In 2021, she obtained a Master of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego.
